Claim verification against the sources themselves

A claim is only as good as the sentence in the source that supports it.

What I do

  • Runs before any article is written, so a story built on a contradicted claim never gets drafted
  • Reads the text of every source behind a pitch and checks each key claim against it
  • Must quote the supporting sentence verbatim; the quote is then searched for in the source by plain code, so support cannot be invented
  • A claim the source contradicts stops the story; an unsupported claim is flagged for Marco Scarito in the pull request
  • Uses official APIs where a page cannot be read directly, such as the NVD vulnerability database and the EU Commission press corner
